Punk Rock is in it simplest form is three chord rock music married along with a simplified melody. Groups like the New York Dolls, and the Stooges hinted at what would be the new subgenre along with various garage bands and experiemental artists of the 60s and 70s but it wasn't until later in the decade that the sound was solidifed by two bands on either sides of the Atlantic- The Ramones in the US and the Sex Pistols in the UK. The music was basically played faster, more amplified, and more grating than its predecessors. Musicianship  was generally secondary to intensity, bravado and sheer raw in your face energy.
